Five year old Maggie and ten year old Shaggy Rogers got along with each other generally well. However, today was not one of those days. They were both tugging on an end of Scooby Doo's collar while they argued over who could get him.
"You ALWAYS get to play with Scooby, Shaggy!" Maggie whined. "It's mine turn with him for once! Momma said you had to share!"
"Like Mags, Scooby is, like, my dog! I don't, like, HAVE to share!" Shaggy tried to reason with his little sister.
"Yes you do!" Maggie demanded, tugging even harder on Scooby's collar. In reaction (and not wanting to lose the fight) Shaggy tugged Scooby's collar tighter too. Scooby, in the middle of all this, felt that he was being choked right about now, even more so than before. And the more the siblings tugged, the more Scooby's collar started to rip apart.
"I, like, do not!" Shaggy argued.
"Do to!" Maggie argued back.
"Not!"
"Do!"
"Not!"
"Do!"
Finally, with a loud rip sound, Maggie and Shaggy fell backwards in a daze, unsure of what just happened. Scooby instantly raised his paw to feel around his neck.
"Rank you." He said to the sky when he realized that his collar was off and fell to the ground in an exhausted heap. Maggie then looked down at the piece of Scooby's collar she had ripped off. Shaggy had a piece of Scooby's ripped off collar in his hand as well.
Maggie looked at Scooby's neck where his collar once was, then looked down at his ripped collar now in her hand. She instantly knew what she had done and felt guilty just as quickly.
"Oh…" she moaned. Shaggy wasn't listening. He was mad at Maggie for ripping Scooby's collar. He had bought it with his own money, and it was not a cheap collar! But then he and Scooby looked at Maggie. She had started crying.
"I… I broke… Scooby… Scooby's collar…" she softly cried to herself.
"Ruh-oh…" Scooby said as he looked at Shaggy.
"Should we, like, apologize?" Shaggy asked Scooby. "It is, like, kind of my fault."
"Reah." Scooby told Shaggy, folding his arms. "Rat rould re rice of rou."
"Yeah, it would." Shaggy nodded. He put on a smile and went over to Maggie, who was still crying softly to herself. She looked up at her big brother and handed him the piece of Scooby's ripped collar.
"I'm… sorry… Shaggy." She said, "I didn't mean to rip Scooby's collar."
"Like, it's alright Mags." Shaggy said, taking the collar piece. "Scoob didn't like it anyway."
"I ridn't?" Scooby asked himself, trying to recall if he had ever done such a thing. Shaggy and Maggie ignored him.
"Can… can I help you… help you get a new collar for Scooby?" Maggie asked.
"Like, sure Mags." Shaggy agreed with a smile.
"I… I can help pay for it too." Maggie offered.
"That, like, would be very kind of you Mags. Like, thank you."
Maggie smiled and dried her eyes before hugging her brother. The sibling have made up. For now.
A cute fic about Maggie and Shaggy being siblings. And I am sorry that Scooby doesn't get much lines or mention although he's basically in the center of all of this. I had a rather hard time trying to figure out his dialog on top of making sure Shaggy doesn't overuse the word 'like' a lot.
